This image from the Central and Southern Andes GPS Project illustrates the seismic effects of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile on Feb. 27. The quake moved the city of Concepcion 10 feet to the west and the capital of Santiago nearly a foot in the same direction. Cities across Chile and Argentina experienced shifts, with the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires moving about an inch. See a model of the tsunami caused by the quake
