After eight decades of silence, Russia's Kizimen Volcano, located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, erupted, as seen in this February photograph. In this false-color image, a volcanic plume streams northeast from the summit. The white portion of the plume is rich with steam, while the tan portion is primarily ash.
