His book, Antarctica: The Global Warning, documents the beauty of this world of ice, but also chronicles an alarming development: The northern Antarctic Peninsula is warming faster than any place on earth, with average midwinter temperatures rising 9° F (5° C) in the past half-century. His Antarctica work — featured in the gallery at right — led to his being chosen as a finalist for the prestigious conservation photography award, the Prix Pictet.
